This week's episode focuses on the growing group of TV viewers that are considered "Late to the Party" (that includes both of us who reluctantly admit to the fact that we have yet to fully dive into the Making a Murderer rabbit hole). On this very special Bonus Pop we interview filmmaker, producer, advocate and PGA East Diversity Committee Chair, Rachel Watanabe-Batton about the recent all white Oscar Nominations in the acting categories. We have a frank discussion about what these exclusionary nominations say about the state of the Academy and the film industry. This podcast falls on the heels of the recent news from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences announcing new efforts to "double the number of women and diverse members of the Academy by 2020," and brings up a some interesting perspectives about the backlash and boycott that has stemmed from the Oscar Nominations.
